Hi!   Could anyone help us with this mystery?   This is our new Silver Reed SK840.   Photo 1 shows what it looked like when the machine arrived, Photo 2 shows what it looked like after the cover was removed.

Please notice in photo 1 that there is a strange white cover just in front of the yarn mast (shiny metal rod).   We mistakenly removed the cover, thinking we would put the yarn mast there.  However, after opening the cover, we found a deep, dark mysterious hole…clearly not intended for the yarn mast.   It does appear large enough for a 7 pin din connector and even has the aligning triangle in front.  But what is it?   Why is it there?  The electronics for my machine are on the carriage and this hole is on the back of the bed!   It’s driving us insane.   Shall we glue the cover back on?   What is hiding in the hole (and by the way, we looked inside and it appears to be empty…just a cavity…like something is missing)?

Strange Goose Song (please sing along with a modern version of Beethoven’s 5th)

What is this hole?
What is this hole?
What is this hole and where does it go?
We looked inside and we don’t know…

Why is it there????
Where does it go???
Why is it there?
WE – DON’T – KNOW!?

(repeat from “What is this hole”!)

MYSTERY SOLVED

Thanks to our many buds at Ravelry, we learned that this hole had been for the SK580 machine which had the electronics in the bed.    We suppose that Silver Reed decided not to create a new mold for the SK840 so...Uh, there are MANY holes!   Now, we're all for saving a few $$$, but please, couldn't you use a snap in plug instead of just a light layer of glue over a plastic thingie????   Don't you realize that curious Geese might try to look inside and realize that the cover can't be put back without some double stick tape????  HUH?   Geese need to look, holes need to have snap in covers.  HUMPH!   Arigato-gozaimasu!
